1. Donate a tree (All january)

Donate a tree

Auchingarrioch Wildlife & Adventure Park

Donate a tree and get a coffee for free during January.

The Christmas trees - Pine, Fir and Spruce - are great for all sorts of animals. They are a natural decongestant and wormer and some are high in Vitamin C and A. We have been surprised how many of our animals can make use of them. For instance, even if they can’t eat the trees, our keepers have been able to use them as a form of enrichment hiding food in the branches for animals such as the Otters, Lemurs and marmosets.

When the animals have finished eating them, the larger ones like the Guanacos, Pigs, Deer and Highland Cattle will use them as scratch posts and the smaller such as chickens, ducks and meerkats will use them as shelter or roosts.

Once they have used as much as they can we can chip them and use them for either bedding or pathways. We will also take cuttings and propagate creating hedges as part of our green highways project.

Finally, we will compost down the trees and dig them back into then land or mulch our new flower beds. It’s an amazing project and we have had tremendous support from businesses, communities and individuals.
